MOSH — Museum of Science & History is Jacksonville's science and local-history museum, currently between buildings after closing its longtime Southbank home and starting construction on a much larger riverfront replacement.
Where it is and who runs it
The former museum on Museum Circle on the Southbank Riverwalk closed in September 2025 and is being demolished; the new MOSH Genesis is going up on Lot X at the Jacksonville Shipyards on the Northbank riverfront downtown, with the museum's operating offices on South Laura Street.
Getting there
The Southbank site sits off Museum Circle near Main Street and the Acosta and Main Street bridges. The new Shipyards site is on the Northbank east of downtown, in the corridor being redeveloped alongside the Four Seasons hotel, the Stadium of the Future and the Emerald Trail, with Bay Street the main downtown approach.
Worth knowing
- Over $95 million in public and private funding has been raised for the new building

Existing restroom provision
With the Southbank building closed and coming down, there is no permanent public restroom provision at the museum site at all. The real need here is construction-phase sanitation on the Shipyards build and the Southbank demolition, plus facilities for off-site and pop-up MOSH programming and for groundbreaking and donor events.
Truck access
The Shipyards parcel is an active downtown construction site on the Northbank riverfront, so access runs through contractor gates and staging routes rather than public parking, and the old Southbank location is a demolition site with restricted entry. Both are hemmed in by downtown one-way streets and bridge approaches.
Permitting
Public-property events downtown fall under City of Jacksonville special-event permitting, with applications no less than 90 days and no more than 365 days ahead and any gathering of 500 or more on public property automatically classed as a special event. Construction-site sanitation on the Shipyards project falls under the contractor's site plan instead.
