Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens is Northeast Florida's zoological park and botanical garden, home to more than 2,000 animals and over 1,000 plant species — renamed from Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens in May 2025, though the shorter name is still in wide use.
Where it is and who runs it
On Zoo Parkway on the north bank of the Trout River near its confluence with the St. Johns, on the Northside, operated by the nonprofit Jacksonville Zoological Society under contract with the City of Jacksonville on city-owned land.
Getting there
I-95 exit 358 to Zoo Parkway, then about a mile east to the entrance, with Heckscher Drive the connecting arterial and a large surface visitor lot at the entrance

Existing restroom provision
There are extensive permanent restrooms across the 122 acres, sized for normal daytime attendance. The pressure is event-driven: after-hours ticketed festivals like Brew at the Zoo and multi-week night runs like Spooktacular and Colors of the Wild push far above normal per-hour crowding, and the entrance plaza, the parking lot and the staging areas outside the gates have no fixed facilities at all.
Truck access
Deliveries route around a single public entrance plaza and one main visitor lot that fills for evening events, plus the internal train right-of-way and the pedestrian paths inside the park. Placement anywhere near an animal habitat is a conversation with zoo operations rather than a free choice, and Zoo Parkway is the only approach road there is.
Permitting
No city special-event permit is needed for an event held inside the zoo — bookings run through the zoo's own venue rentals office, which sets the vendor and site conditions.
